How We Work

Engagement Models — How We Work, How We Charge, and How Fast We Start.

Trembit is a real-time video, voice and AI engineering company that works with CTOs through six engagement models — from a fixed-scope architecture review or rescue assessment to a dedicated team that stays for years. Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute technical scoping call, and every quote is agreed up front, after scoping, not read off a rate card. Over 15 years we’ve delivered 50+ video and voice implementations.

Engagement Models in Brief

Trembit is a real-time video, voice and AI engineering company, and most engagements start with a free 30-minute technical scoping call. From there you either take a fixed-scope first step — a 1–2 week architecture review, a rescue assessment delivered within two weeks, or a proof of concept typically scheduled in the first one to four weeks — or go straight into a build run in 2-week sprints. A Tech Lead with direct access to our CTO runs the work, with engineers, QA and DevOps added as the scope requires. Cost is driven by target scale, architecture, compliance requirements, integrations and how much of the stack already exists, and it is quoted after scoping, never published as a rate card.

Typical first steps and their length:

  • Technical scoping call — 30 minutes, free
  • Architecture review — 1–2 weeks, fixed scope
  • Rescue assessment — root-cause plan within 2 weeks
  • Proof of concept — usually within weeks 1–4 (voice AI: 4–8 weeks)
  • Build — 2-week sprints, working software on staging after every cycle
  • Dedicated team — ongoing, typically 1–3+ years

Which Model Fits Where You Are?

Pick the first step from your situation, not from a pricing preference. Most clients use two models in sequence.

You're designing a new video, voice or AI product

Start with: an architecture review or a proof of concept. Then: a fixed-scope MVP build or a dedicated team.

Your live platform is failing, or you inherited the code

Start with: a rescue assessment. Then: stabilisation on Time & Materials, and usually a dedicated team.

You have a clear spec and a fixed budget

Start with: a fixed-scope build with milestone payments.

Your product is live and the roadmap keeps growing

Start with: a dedicated team, or support & maintenance if the platform is stable.

Six Ways to Work With Trembit

Discovery & Architecture Review

For teams designing real-time video or voice, or with a live product that needs optimisation, cost reduction or scaling guidance.

A focused, fixed-scope assessment of your architecture, before anyone writes media code or before you spend another sprint guessing.

More: WebRTC consulting & architecture reviews

  • Duration: 1–2 weeks
  • You get: a documented architecture with rationale and trade-offs (SFU vs. MCU, TURN/STUN strategy, codec selection), bandwidth cost modelling for your user scenarios, a scaling strategy, and a prioritised roadmap
  • Billed: fixed scope, quoted up front after a short scoping call. Ongoing guidance (embedded consulting) is billed monthly per specialist

Rescue Assessment

For a live video or voice product that's failing: dropped calls, quality that collapses as participants join, or a codebase another team left behind.

We read your codebase, diagnose at the protocol level, and tell you what’s wrong, why, and what it takes to fix, before you commit to a full engagement.

More: WebRTC rescue

  • Duration: root-cause assessment and prioritised plan within two weeks
  • You get: codebase assessment and root-cause diagnosis; protocol-level findings (ICE, TURN, SDP, codec negotiation, media-server configuration); a prioritised fix plan; an honest call on whether to fix, or to rebuild only the media layer while keeping your application layer
  • Billed: stabilisation after the assessment is usually Time & Materials, because the exact fix emerges during diagnosis.

Proof of Concept

For validating feasibility before a full build: real latency on real networks, call quality, or AI accuracy and cost on your own data.

A minimal working prototype of the recommended architecture, tested against the conditions that will break it in production.

More: What every PoC contract should include

  • Duration: usually scheduled within weeks 1–4 of an engagement (real-time video PoC in weeks 2–4; AI discovery & PoC in weeks 1–3); a voice AI PoC runs 4–8 weeks
  • You get: a working prototype, measured results (quality, latency, accuracy, cost profile), and a go / no-go recommendation with the production path
  • Billed: fixed price when the question and the data are known; Time & Materials when the real effort only becomes clear once we see your data, which is common in AI work

Fixed-Scope Build

For MVPs, prototypes and well-specified features where the requirements are clear from day one.

Defined scope, defined budget, defined timeline, delivered in working increments you can test.

  • Duration: depends on scope; as a guide, a typical MVP takes 2–4 months, and a telemedicine or video chat MVP 3–4 months
  • You get: a detailed specification up front, working software on staging every two weeks, a fixed delivery date, and architecture documentation with knowledge transfer at the end
  • Billed: fixed price with milestone-based payments.

Dedicated Team

For long-lived products with evolving roadmaps. It's also the most common next step after a build or a rescue.

Full-time engineers working exclusively on your product. You set the priorities; we handle execution and scale the team up or down as needs change.

  • Duration: ongoing, typically 1–3+ years. One EdTech client has kept its Trembit team for 7+ years, growing it from 3 to 11 engineers
  • Team: typically 2–4 engineers plus a Tech Lead, with backend, frontend, mobile, QA and DevOps skills added as needed
  • Billed: monthly, with transparent hours. For evolving scope, Time & Materials lets you adjust scope and priorities every sprint

Support & Maintenance

For a stable platform that still needs someone who understands its real-time layer.

Browsers change WebRTC behaviour, usage grows, and call quality drifts. We keep the platform healthy without you hiring a specialist team.

  • Duration: ongoing
  • You get: production call-quality monitoring and drop-rate tracking, proactive browser-compatibility updates, performance optimisation, and documentation so your team isn't dependent on us for basic operations
  • Billed: monthly

What Drives the Cost

We don’t publish a rate card, because the same feature can cost very different amounts depending on the factors below. Builds get a firm, itemised estimate after a technical scoping call. Rescue and scaling work gets a prioritised plan within two weeks, before you commit.

Scale and concurrency

How many concurrent users, sessions or streams you need to serve, and how sharp your peaks are.

Architecture

P2P, SFU or a custom media server; the latency tier; a managed CPaaS or owned infrastructure. Each one shifts both build cost and running cost.

Compliance

HIPAA, GDPR or KBV requirements: encryption, audit logging, data residency and certification support are architecture work, not add-ons.

Integrations

The number of systems the product must talk to (EHR, ERP, CRM, identity), and how clean their APIs are.

What already exists

Greenfield, an existing product to extend, or an inherited codebase to stabilise. For rescues, the codebase’s condition decides the plan.

Platforms and data

Web, iOS and Android clients, and for AI work the quality and volume of your data and the model you choose.

Running cost is a separate question. CPaaS per-minute pricing and owned infrastructure break even at different usage levels, and we model that break-even for you rather than assume it.

How We Start — Your First Two Weeks

1
Within 24 hours

Reply and NDA

You tell us what you’re building or what’s breaking. We reply within 24 hours and can sign an NDA before you share anything sensitive.

2
30 minutes, free

Technical Scoping Call

An engineer, not a salesperson, looks at your architecture, asks the questions your team hasn’t been able to answer, and recommends the smallest sensible first step. No pitch deck.

3

Written Proposal

Model, scope, team, timeline and a quote, in writing.

4
Week 1

Kickoff

Codebase and infrastructure access, current architecture docs, a couple of hours with your engineering lead, a shared Slack channel and board access. For builds: environments, CI/CD and the first sprint backlog.

5
Weeks 1–2

First Deliverable

An architecture document, a root-cause assessment, or the first working slice of a PoC, followed by the first sprint demo at the end of week 2.

How We Work Together

A Tech Lead with direct CTO access

Your CTO talks directly to our Tech Lead, and our Tech Lead has direct access to Trembit’s CTO. No account managers in between.

Shared tools, visible progress

A shared Slack channel, access to the board (Jira or Linear), and working software on a staging environment after every 2-week sprint.

Time zones that overlap

Our engineering team is based in Ukraine (GMT+2), which overlaps with EU and US business hours, and we have European offices in Valencia and London. We work with US and DACH clients in their business hours.

Continuity you can check

Multiple clients kept their engagements running through every phase of the war in Ukraine. Distributed infrastructure, tested business-continuity plans and our European offices keep delivery going.

No lock-in by design

Architecture documentation and knowledge transfer are part of every engagement, so your team can run the platform without us. Most clients stay anyway.

Contracts, IP and Compliance Paperwork

You own the code

All source code, documentation, architecture diagrams and intellectual property transfer to you, and we can work under your preferred IP agreement.

NDA before details

Every conversation can start with an NDA, before you share code, architecture or data.

Data Processing Agreement (GDPR)

Where our engineers process personal data on your behalf, we sign a Data Processing Agreement under GDPR Article 28.

Business Associate Agreement (HIPAA)

For US healthcare builds where our engineers may access protected health information, we sign a Business Associate Agreement. Either way, we design the platform so every vendor in the PHI path is covered by its own BAA.

Certifications, stated precisely

We built a KBV-certified psychotherapy video platform in Germany. We design to HIPAA and GDPR requirements.
